CHANDIGARH: Yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, is all set to float a political party to offer 'an option' to the common man in the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections in 2014. Vowing not to contest himself as a candidate, Baba Ramdev said that he would not occupy a position of power himself.
Dressed in typical saffron attire, Baba Ramdev, talked to media men before heading to Solan in Himachal Pradesh where he is scheduled to address a rally of supporters on the issue of land lease cancelled by the Himachal Pradesh government of 28 acre plot allotted to Patanjali Yogpeeth by the previous BJP government in Sadhupul.
Baba Ramdev chose to tread the middle path in a bid not to annoy the incumbent CM, Virbhadra Singh. "As an individual, the chief minister, Virbhadra Singh does not want to stall this project as it is in the interest of the people. But he has orders from the high command to do so," said Ramdev.
Baba's ambitions were clear from the political overtones his address acquired. "This government has lost the moral right to continue because of the way the common man is being burdened with taxes and inflation. People need a healthy option," he said.
Promising to unveil his political party in the next two months, Baba Ramdev, gave but an outline of the new organization in making. "we have started motivating workers at the ground level. Like minded people will part of the political party as we have realized that in order to stem corruption we have to enter the political arena and the parliament," he said.
On being asked if Anna Hazare would be part of the political movement, Ramdev said, "I am not divorced with Hazare. We never parted ways so the question of getting together does not arise."
Ramdev said that he is eyeing at least 100 seats in the parliament. "We need at least 100 people in the Parliament who will work towards freeing the country from corruption, black money and social, economic injustice. For this we are getting like minded people together."
The Yoga guru mentioned the participation of Lt Gen Hoon in the proposed party while refusing to clear the air if former army chief VK Singh would be part of the party.
